Overview and Evidence[]

The DeRidder Roadkill was an unknown animal carcass discovered along Louisiana Highway 12 in DeRidder, Louisiana, in 1996. It was found dead on the shoulder of the roadway on a hot day by a woman named Barbara Mullins. Mullins, bewildered, exited her vehicle, equipped with a camera and took several images from different angles of the carcass. It is described as being the same size of an adult St. Bernard, with thick brown fur, feet of an ape, and small pointed ears. Its facial features could not be determined thoroughly due to being covered in fur.[1]

The discovery eventually caught the attention of the town newspaper, noting the possibility of it being a Devil Monkey or a Chupacabra. Research was conducted by multiple people on the Internet in the 2000s, with one even ruling it as being a rougarou. As of today, the discovery remains unexplained. A study conducted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries found it to be a species of canine, known as a Pomeranian, despite it being far too large to be such, as the average size of an Pomeranian dog averages around 7.7 pounds. It is theorized by skeptics to be simply a large, hairy, deceased dog.
