Overview and Evidence[]
The La Junta Elf was a diminutive humanoid creature seemingly caught on a personal security camera on the night of June 5, 2019. Uploaded to Facebook the next day by La Junta, Colorado resident Vivian Gomez, the footage went viral and sparked a great deal of controversy over the identity of the individual on the film. The footage ostensibly shows an unknown creature walking down Gomez's driveway towards the street.[1]
The creature appears to stand between three and four feet in height. Upright and bipedal in posture, the creature is thin and gangly and appears to have long floppy ears. It walks with a strange bow-legged gait, creating a great deal of noise as it flops down the driveway. As it nears the front of the car in the driveway, it begins to flap its arms as though doing the Chicken Dance.
When interviewed, Gomez repeatedly denied insinuations that the creature was her son Bobby, the most commonly suggested explanation for the creature.[2][3] Those who have put forward this hypothesis have noted that the floppy 'ears' appear to simply be a pair of underpants on a child's head and suggested that Bobby either performed this act without his mother's knowledge or did it with her involvement as an intentional hoax. In interviews, Bobby himself has claimed that he was watching television with his mother Vivian when the footage was recorded and suggested his friend Montana as a culprit, but she denied any involvement.[4]
